Winner of both the Academy Award for best foreign-language film and the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or, Marcel Camus’ Black Orpheus (Orfeu negro) brings the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice to the twentieth-century madness of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

This impressionistic retelling of the Greek legend introduced bossa nova to the world with its soundtrack by young Brazilian composers Luiz Bonfá and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Dear Patrons and Friends,

As the world is navigating the enormous scale health concern from COVID-19, we at Friends of Chamber Music are doing our part in global efforts to stop the spread of the pandemic:

Regretfully, we are canceling the showing of Black Orpheus on April 14 at the Queen Theatre in Downtown Bryan and also, the final event of the 2019-2020 Friends of Chamber Music’s Concert Series, Clarice Assad and Sergio Assad’s performance on April 21 at A&M United Methodist Church in College Station.

This is a challenging time for all of us, but we are already looking forward to the day when life is back to normal and we, once again, come together to share in the beauty of music. Hopeful and optimistic, we are working hard on finalizing the 25th concert season. We assure you that you will be first to know what we have in our 2020-2021 plans!
