About the event

Hiked are proud to announce the Great Ocean Walk Experience.

Join us for a 7 day walk along Australia’s most famous coastline on the 24th - 30th of November,  2023.

Enjoy immersion into nature, while you enjour the beauty of the Bimbi Park Caravan Park and hiking along the coast without the challenge of full packs on this fully supported journey.

Transport:

Your own transport will be required to meet at our accommodation for the trip at Bimbi Park, 90 Manna Gum Drive, Cape Otway, unless you are travelling from Interstate or Overseas and you will be picked up from the Airport and dropped off at the Airport. Hiked will be providing a Private Bus to ferry walkers to and from accommodation to daily hike start/end points.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Fri 24th November

Make your own way to our accommodation at Bimbi Park. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the scenic Great Ocean Road, perhaps stopping off to explore the beautiful coastal towns of Lorne and Apollo Bay. Meeting time at the accommodation from 3pm. Time to unpack, relax and let your guides cook a delicious dinner followed by wine, cheese & chocolates.

Day 2: Sat 25thNovember – 21km (Up at 6am, gone by 7am to start walking by 8am at latest) 7hrs

After a hearty and fresh breakfast, you will be dropped off in Apollo Bay at the start of the Great Ocean Walk. This section has spectacular views of the coast before we head into the towering forests of mountain ash. We re-join the coastline finishing at picturesque Blanket Bay. Pack your beach towel in the bus for a nice dip or explore the rock pools before we return to our accommodation for a delicious meal.

Day 3: Sun 26thNovember – 20km (Up at 6am, gone by 7am to start walking by 7.30am) 7 hrs

Another early start we hike from Blanket Bay, stopping for lunch at the iconic Cape Otway for a quick explore before heading to Aire River. Plenty of koala spotting along this section and we will also have the option of a small detour to Rainbow Falls and beach walking.

Day 4: Mon 27th November – 14km – (up at 7am, gone by 8am for 9am start) 5hrs

From Aire River the track heads inland for a while, climbing up and around the next headland through spinifex forests, and then continues along the coastal path with sweeping views of the rugged coastline. Expect some ups and downs with a little climbing before you get to Castle Cove which is a beautiful beach surrounded by towering cliffs. Make sure you keep an eye out above for Peregrine Falcons. Eventually you will emerge onto the broad expanse of Johanna Beach. This beautiful beach is one of the best in Australia with superb views and enormous crashing surf.

Day 5: Tues 28thNovember -15km - (up at 7am, gone by 8am for 9am start) 6hrs

The walk from Johanna Beach to Ryans Den alternates between farmland and the isolated beach and sea cliffs of Milanesia, then rollercoasters up and down the coast to reach Ryans Den. Expect to see Eastern Grey Kangaroos in the grassy valleys close to Johanna Beach. From here the trail continues along the high sea cliffs to Ryans Den with breathtaking views all the way back to Cape Otway, and west to Cape Volney. We then head up Ryans Den Track to the Great Ocean Road to meet the bus.

Day 6: Wed 29thNovember – 14km - (up at 7am, gone by 8am for 9am start) 7hrs

This is the wildest and probably the most challenging section of the track. From Ryans Den the track continues through coastal forests over Cape Volney to Moonlight Head. After Moonlight Head, the track dips down into a valley and follows a new section of track to The Gables Lookout, perched on one of the highest sea cliffs in Australia. Continuing along the track through a grove of Casuarina trees, you will merge near Wreck Beach. At low tide, you can descend and see the anchors of two of the many shipwrecks that lie submerged along this coast.

Day 7: Thurs 30th November – 17km (Up at 5.30am gone by 6.30am to start walking by 7.30am) 5hrs

From Devils Kitchen we will follow the track that hugs the wild coastal cliffs towards Princetown and The Twelve Apostles Marine Park. The wetlands around Princetown support a wide variety of bird life and we will cross the Gellibrand River on a trestle bridge. We will finish the walk at the Twelve Apostles visitor centre where there are toilets and a cafe, and we can toast the completion of your Great Ocean Walk!
